Species delimitation in genus Tripterygium by molecular identification
Tripterygium wilfordii (Celastraceae) is a traditional Chinese medicine, the main officinal part is the dried root and rhizome”1”.It has a potential candidate for treating systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, nephritis, asthma, leprosy and cancer ”2-5”.Up to now hundreds compounds, have been extracted from of Tripterygium wilfordii, such as diterpenes, triterpenes, alkaloids and lignans”6-9”.Extracts of Tripterygium wilfordii include mounts of bioactive components, for instance, triptolide celastrol and tripehlorolide”10”.Genus tripterygium includes 3 species which is Tripterygium wilfordii Hook.f., Tripterygium hypoglaucum (Lev1.)Hutch and Tripterygium regelii Sprague et Takeda ”11”.We try to clarify the relationship in genus Tripterygium by phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequence. Here we combined three plastid DNA(psbA-trnH, rpl32-trnL and trnL-trnF) regions and analysed phylogenetic trees of haplotypes. The results show that Tripterygium hypoglaucum and Tripterygium wilfordii were paraphyletic with each other and accorded with geographic positions, while Tripterygium regelii is delimited. We suggest that Tripterygium regelii, and Tripterygium hypoglaucum are the same specoes and Tripterygium wilfordii is another.
