Recover Ammonia from Low Ammonia Wastewater by a Novel Combined Membrane Capacitive Deionization (MCDI) and Ion Exchange (Ⅸ) Process
In this study, a novel method of ion-exchange resin ammonia recovery with pretreatment by membrane capacitive deionization (MCDI+Ⅸ process) was proposed. As pretreatment, MCDI was selected for its selective ion removal which could eliminate prior cations” (Ca2+, Mg2+and so on) negative effects on Ⅸ absorb-desorb process.Lab-scale experiments were carried out. With the selective removal of prior cations in MCDI cell, ammonia concentration reduced slightly from 1.40mmol/L to 0.88mol/L while prior cations reduced from 8.06mmol/L to 2.36mmol/L (Converted into monovalent ions for calculation).Comparing to single Ⅸ process, MCDI+Ⅸ process could make use of additional 1.4× 10-3 kWh energy to produce additional 80% NH4and 189% water in a resin regeneration cycle.
