汉语言外之意研究
This paper examines the major themes emerging in studies o f言外之意，i.e.,Chinese implicature by Chinese scholars.There are two general strands of conceptualization,which can be characterized in two sets of triadic terms:the Yán-Xiàng-Yì言象意‘speech-image-idea”-trilogy and the Sī-Yì-Yān思意言`thought-intended meaning-speech”-trilogy.Also examined is the pedagogical practice of teaching through implications and dùnwù顿悟sudden enlightenment in Chinese Zen Buddhism.A contrast is made between the Gricean theory of implicature,which is based on rationality,and the Chinese integrity principle of speech,thought,emotion and embodiment,which highlights the role of emotion.
