Hydrothermal Synthesis of 3D Stalk-like Alumina and its Adsorption Performances for anionic Dye

Stalk-like alumina(Al2O3)has been successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method using aluminum nitrate nonahydrate(Al(NO3)3 · 9H2O)and polyethylene glycol(PEG)as aluminum source and template agent, respectively. The structures and properties of as-obtained samples were studied by X-ray powder diffractometry(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra(DRS).The as-synthesized Al2O3 was composed of uniform nanosized stalks and the length of about 1.5 μm.The stalk is self-assembled by a set number of nanoleaves with the thickness less than 30 nm.The effects of hydrothermal time on the structures of the samples were systematically investigated.Batch adsorption experiments were conducted for removing azo-dye congo red(CR)from aqueous solution. The impacts on adsorption performances of contact time, initial concentration of CR and pH value were further study.
