Femtosecond laser inscription and micromachining in glass and polymer optical fibers
The development of wavelength filtering devices and beam shapers in glass and polymer optical fibers, using inscription with a femtosecond laser, is reported.By using a femtosecond laser operating in the green, where the inscription efficiency is greater than for infrared operation, we demonstrate the efficient and reliable inscription of Bragg gratings in silica and CYTOP polymer optical fiber.Additionally, we show the potential for femtosecond laser inscription to be applied to beam shaping. Moreover, we demonstrate a novel fibre Bragg grating post-inscription technique using the femtosecond laser to modify and add versatility to an optical fiber pressure sensor based on an extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer.
