Data vs assessment:Enhance teaching through assessment for learning by analyzing data & feedback

  This case study research attempts to examine the effectiveness on enhancing teaching through analyzing data and feedback in a primary school in Hong Kong.The study uses the Assessment Quality Assurance Platform(AQP,an online platform provided by HKEAA)to review the results of a Mathematics quiz and to plan for a follow up lesson based on the data analysis of the results obtained.The follow up lesson aims to provide feedback to the students and cater for learner diversity.The research findings seem to suggest that using data analysis on a summative assessment can provide teachers sufficient information to plan a lesson that caters for differentiation and enhances students” learning outcomes.This case study illustrates the effectiveness of using education data to provide useful information to teachers as well as to develop a student-centered approach to teaching.
