Enhance Oleophilicity of Stainless Mesh Using TiO2 Coating
The present study investigated the applicability of titanium dioxide (TiO2) coating for the en-hancement of the stainless steel mesh wettability properties. The stainless mesh has been coated with TiO2 by using a simple immersing method of a gel solution using polyethylene glycol (PEG 200) as a solvent and characterized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and contact angle measurement. The SEM results revealed that the TiO2 was uniformly dispersed on the surface of the stainless mesh and EDS analysis showed TiO2 peak at 0.4, 4.8 and 5eV, that confirming the presence of TiO2 on surface of the stainless mesh. The effect of PEG 200 on the dynamic contact angle was also investigated and the results showed that PEG 200 remarkably influenced the water contact angle as, the oil contact angle decreased as the amount of PEG 200 increase, and the oil contact angle of the stainless mesh immersed into a sol-gel containing 10 mL of PEG 200 was 0° which is characteristic to superoleophilic membrane. The results of the present suggested the effectiveness of TiO2 coated in the enhancement of stainless mesh wettability and to prepare a superoleophilic membrane. Moreover, the present method is an environmental friendly in regarding the chemicals used that can be used for industrial application.
