Towards Sustainable Controlled Environment Agriculture: Challenges and Opportunities
Vision, mission and goals of controlled environment agriculture (CEA) are described.Six components of CEA innovative technologies related to CEA are discussed.RUE (resource use efficiency), CP (cost performance) and V (vulnerability of value-yield and quality of produce) are three key indices for assessing and improving the sustainability of greenhouse food crop production.Improvements of the yield and quality of produce with minimum resource input, cost, risk and environmental pollutant emissions can be efficiently achieved with an integrative environmental control network system connected with intelligent environment controllers, through which RUE, CP and V are continuously monitored and improved.
