Clock Jump Repair of high-rate GNSS data for earthquake monitoring in Japan
High-rate GNSS positioning technology can measure the crustal displacement caused by earthquakes and can therefore be used for seismic monitoring and early warning.Japan”s earthquakes are frequent and it has lots of GNSS stations, and so Japan”s GNSS data are the ideal testbed for the study of GNSS seismology. When we processed the GNSS data of the Japanese earthquakes from 2003 until 2013,we found that many GNSS data in Japan had problems of receiver clock jumps, cycle slips and so forth. The problems caused difficulties in precisely capturing seismic waves. In order to solve these problems,we developed a data processing strategy to deal with the GNSS data affected by these problems based on the theory of receiver clock jumps and cycle slips. In order to prove the effectiveness of this strategy,we conducted a comparative experiment on 10 years of high-rate GNSS data in Japan. The experimental results show that this strategy can effectively improve the quality of GNSS data processing results, reduce the adverse impact of receiver clock jumps and cycle slips on the observation results, and thus have a positive impact on the monitoring and early warning with GNSS seismic observations.
