Encapsulation of Gold Nanoparticles with Cross-Linked Amphiphilic Pillar”5”arene Shells for Size-Selective and Recyclable Catalysis

We describe a novel strategy for the preparation of core/shell catalysts with ultra-thin porous shells and precise pore size consisting of gold nanoparticlecores and cross-linked amphiphilicpillar”5”arene AP5shells.Firstly, gold nanoparticles AuNPs were synthesized by reducing HAuCl4 in the presence of amphiphilicpillar”5”arene AP5 in water.Then the AP5molecules on the surfaces of AuNPs were cross-linked.Importantly, the as-prepared AuNP@cross-linked-AP5core/shell structure exhibited exceptional size-selective catalysis in the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds with the same reactive site but slight different molecular sizes.Simultaneously, the core/shell nanocatalyst showedhigh activity, outstanding thermal stability and good recyclability.
