SigAm Bilingual Deaf Education Projects in China(2004-2014)
With the financial and technical support from Norway, the Amity Foundation has successfully implemented SigAm bilingual deaf education projects in the 15 special education schools in China from 2004-2014.Under the projects, Chinese Sign Language (CSL) is taught as the first language for deaf children and used in classroom teaching.Deaf teachers/teaching assistants are employed and trained to work/teach in partnership with their hearing peers.Parents are trained in CSL, which has greatly improved child/parents communication and interaction at home.
