A Comparison of Hearing and Deaf or Hard of Hearing Students” Awareness of Two Grammatical Errors in A Self-Paced Sentence Reading Task
One of the most serious problems that deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) students have with written language seems to be their retardation at grammar. In addition to their lack of exposure to the language, their dependence on sign language might also have a negative influence on their grammatical development in written language. We did two experiments to compare a cohort of DHH and a cohort of hearing students” performance in a self-paced reading task on two grammatical errors that were frequently observed in DHH students” compositions.
