BACKGROUND: A fixed value of FEV1/FVC used for diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in all people might result in under diagnosis in young people and over diagnosis in old people.This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic criteria of COPD using FEV1/FVC, by describing lung function in a population aged 45 years or over.
