Relationship between Carotid Remodeling and Plaque Stability by Magnetic Resonance Imaging
BACKGROUND: This paper aimed to study the relationship between carotid remodeling index (CRI) and plaque tissue characteristics and clinical factors by high-resolution MRI.METHODS: Forty-six consecutive hypertensive patients with carotid plaque ≥1.5 mm (74 carotid plaque, MaxWT=3.64±1.33 mm)were selected, controlling for ischemic symptoms, treatment with renin-angiotensin system inhibitors and other clinical factors associated with vascular remodeling.Carotid plaque composition (intraplaque hemorrhage, lipid-rich necrotic core and calcification),fibrous cap status and carotid artery morphological measurements (normalized wall index and carotid remodeling index) were analyzed by blinded review.
