Candesartan Effects on Insulin Sensitivity of the Skeletal Muscle in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats
BACKGROUND: Candesartan is one of the angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blockers (ARBs) known to reduce blood pressure through direct inhibition of the binding between the angiotensin Ⅱ and their receptors on vascular smooth muscle cells. In recent years, many clinical studies have found that ARBs can reduce the incidence of diabetes. It is hypothesized that candesartan could improve the body”s insulin sensitivity by blocking the angiotensin Ⅱ disruptive effect on skeletal muscle cells. This study was designed to investigate the effects and mechanism of candesartan on insulin resistance of the skeletal muscle in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).
