BACKGROUND: Serum cystatin C is an independent risk factor for essential hypertension, and meanwhile, hypertension is a common diabetic vascular complication in elder patients.It was hypothesized that serum cystatin C would be an independent risk factor for essential hypertension in elder patients with diabetes.
