The Assessment of Medicine Treatment for Elderly Patients with Intestinal Infections
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the therapeutic effect of intestinal infections via analyzing clinical features and medication in elderly patients.METHODS: Patients aged 60 and older who were hospitalized for intestinal infection (N=40) were enrolled into this study.The screening criteria of the case appeared to be sign of intestinal infection in 72 hours after being in hospital, i.e.pathogenic bacteria were detected.Treatments adhered to the principle of selective use of antibiotics and combination of medicine for critical patients.The mild/moderate patients were treated using aminoglycoside antibiotics typically as tobramycin, 3-5 days for a course.The critical patients were treated using the combination of cephalosporin and quinolones, 10 days for a course.In addition, for those patients with senile disease, treatment order was to control infection first and then to give the treatment of primary disease at the same time with strengthening nutrition support.On the other hand, as an auxiliary, bacillus licheniformis was used to adjust the balance of bacteria.
