Application of Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation in Patients with Recurrent Ischemic Stroke
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV) for the treatment of recurrent ischemic stroke.METHODS: A case-control study of 76 elderly patients who were admitted to the geriatric department was conducted. The patients in the control group were treated with conventional drugs. The exposure group was treated with conventional drug and NPPV therapy for 5 courses.Every course lasted for four weeks, twice in daytime for an hour each time and once during the night for continuous therapy. The interval between two courses was two weeks.Study endpoint was termination of all five courses. The recurrence rate of ischemic stroke, improvement of Scandinavian Stroke Scale (SSS) score, blood gas analysis, Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), soluble Inter Cellular Adhesion Molecule-1 (sICAM-1), and soluble Vascular endothelial Cell Adhesion Molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) were used as assessment indexs.
