Correlation between Brachial-ankle Pulse Wave Velocity, Ankle-brachial Index and the Severity of Coronary Lesions

BACKGROUND: Brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) is a unique measure of systemic arterial stiffness that is measured by brachial and tibial arterial wave analyses.Ankle brachial index (ABI) is the ratio of ankle vs arm systolic blood pressure which initially proposed as a diagnostic tool for peripheral artery disease.Both of them are independently associated with total mortality and cardiovascular events in prospective studies.The aim of this study was therefore to investigate whether ABI and baPWV correlate more closely with coronary atherosclerosis lesion.
