NAADP Mediates Calcium Ion Concentration via Two Pore Channels in Pulmonary Artery Smooth Muscle Cells
BACKGROUND: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is associated with profound vascular remodeling and alterations in Ca2+ homeostasis in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs).Previous studies show that Nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP) is the most potent Ca2+-mobilizing messenger that releases Ca2+ mediated by the two-pore channels (TPCs) TPC1 and TPC2 from endolysosomal organelles in rat PASMCs.We hypothesized that this signaling pathway also expressed in human PASMCs and was involved in the control of numerous physiological functions.
