Diabetes, Anti-diabetic Therapies and Risk of Cancer

Diabetes and cancer are two common diseases that share similar epidemiological and biological basis, and have significant impacts on global health. Most of the cohort studies and meta-analyses have consistently reported that diabetes (primarily type 2) is associated with increased risk for a wide range of neoplasmas including liver, pancreas, endometrium, colorectal, breast and bladder cancer but reduced risk of prostate cancer.Hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia, excess circulating sex hormones and chronic inflammations are plausible pathogenic pathways that attribute to the diabetes-cancer association.
