Association between Adolescents Friendship Quality and Social Anxiety: Maternal Psycho-logical Adjustment as a Moderator
This two-year longitudinal study aimed to explore how maternal psychological adjustment and adolescents” friendship quality affect adolescents” social anxiety.Participants were 310 adolescents and their mothers.The results revealed that the adolescents” affection/ satisfaction in friendship negatively predicted their social anxiety at the second year.The maternal depression and anxiety moderated the association between adolescents” friendship quality and their social anxiety.Specifically with lower maternal negative adjustment,adolescents are more sensitive to the friendship quality.
