Gender and Age Differences of Steroids in Human Hair
This study investigated the effect of gender and age on hair levels of cortisol,cortisone, testosterone, and progesterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in adolescents and early adults.Hair hormones were extracted with methanol and measured by high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.Results showed significantly higher levels of hair cortisone and testosterone in male adolescents than females.Early male adults showed significantly higher testosterone levels and lower cortisone levels than male adolescents.
