Classroom Strategies for Improving Character Retentionin Beginning Chinese Language Learners

  This study reveals a close interrelationship between classroom strategies and character retention for beginning Chinese language learners.It discusses the character-based concept and its teaching strategies, which include quick radical recognition, character teaching, early phrase creation and writing, the contrastive method for marked structures, computer-assisted visual learning, Jeopardy-style character review, and interactive writing practice.These strategies may effectively reduce learning difficulties, motivate autonomous learning, and improve character retention for English-speaking beginners of Chinese.
