CultLab(3)D: Cost-Effective and Fast Digitization for Documentation and Archiving of Cultural Heritage Artifacts
1.CultLab3D-the Mobile Laboratory for Digitization Innovative documentation methods for cultural heritage artifacts are becoming increasingly important.This heightened relevance results from both the desire to provide better access to unique objects, e.g.to make museum collections easily available to a wider audience for research, and the looming threat of losing them due to disasters and other environmental influences.In the past, attempts have been made to digitize books, photos and other works of art and 3D digitization has proved to be a promising approach to enable automated and precise reconstructions of heritage objects.However,automated digitization so far has been developed and implemented only for such ”2D” artefacts.Because of in most cases the process is still slow and highly manual, digitizing 3D objects continues to be an arduous task reserved for only a few selected objects.This impedes the 3D digitization of larger collections with numerous objects.
