Application of Additive Manufacturing to the Digital Reconstruction of Archaeological Artefacts Summer Palace Bronze Lions Replication
1.Introduction Applications of Additive Manufacturing (AM) have arisen in many areas throughout the development of 3D digital technologies. As long ago as 2000, additive manufacturing researchers had recognised the value of digital reconstruction techniques in the field of palaeontology (Zhang, G., et al 2000), (D”Urso,P.S., et al 2000).However, the relative lack of published work in the area of archaeological artefact restoration still demonstrates the limited application when compared to the use of AM in engineering and medical applications. There is a gap between knowledge and practice although reverse engineering (RE) and AM capabilities are theoretically adequate.
