Applications of a Portable Absolute Gravimeter For the Studies of Temporal Gravity Changes
Historically, gravity measurements were mainly employed for the studies of the static gravity fields, namely, gravity anomalies and/or geoid undulations. The progresses on precise field gravity measurements have enabled us to apply the method for monitoring various issues which cause temporal variations of the gravity fields due to mass movements in and on the Earth. In particular, a recent portable absolute gravimeter, MGL (Micro-G LaCoste Inc) A10, becomes a strong tool for those purposes. For instance, A10 have already been applied for monitoring groundwater changes, land subsidence, geothermal reservoir monitoring, and even ice sheet mass movements in polar areas. In this paper,we first introduce the A10 absolute gravimeter and describe some examples of its applications.
