Structure and Properties of Precursor of Activated Carbon Fibers -High-ortho Epichlorohydrin Phenolic Fibers
The high-ortho epichlorohydrin(ECH)-containing phenolic fibers were prepared by the crosslinking of heat-meltable spun filaments derived from melt-spinning of the novolac resins copolymerized among phenol, formaldehyde and ECH in the pres-ence of zinc acetate and sulfuric acid catalyst, and cured in a combined solution of formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid. The resul-ting fibers were heat-treated in N2 at tiered temperature.Infrared(IR)spectrometer, thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),scanning electron microscope(SEM)and electrical tensile strength apparatus were employed to characterize the change of functional groups, thermal performance, mechanical properties and microstructure of fibers. The results show that the addition of ECH in the precursor resin can increase the content of long alkyl ether linkage, and gain the peak of thermal stability and mechanical strength.
