Stimulation and Analysis of Natural Gas Hydrate Formation in Deepwater Multiphase Pipeline and Wellbore

Gas hydrates can form in a matter of hours under appropriate conditions, potentially blocking pipelines and causing significant flow assurance difficulties.Deepwater oil and gas developments are particularly prone to entering the hydrate formation conditions where high sub-cooling is experienced during shut-in conditions.Modeling to predict hydrate plugging occurrences would contribute to improve facility design and operation. In this paper, the hydrate formation condition in subsea flowline, riser and wellbore wascalculated with OLGA multiphase flow simulator on the basis of the prodution data of an oilfield in the waters off Angola.Simulation results show that the temperature and pressure range of the pipelines and wellbore do not meet the hydrate formation conditions under given conditions.Due to the watercut raising, the total pressure drop and the pressure of the whole pipeline both increases and the temperature of the whole pipeline also increases, but the total temperature drop decreases.Considering the oil flow components and operating condition,we analyse the reasons of pressure and temperature laws and propose that the high salinity of produced water inhibits hydrate formation.
