Analysis of gamma globulin in clinical application of premature infant
Objective: To analyze and explore the clinical application of gamma globulin in premature infants. Methods: We performed retrospective analysis of 83 premature infants with intravenous gamma globulin(IVIG)treatment in our hospital from December 2012 to December 2013 and compared the serum lgG levels and CRP levels of 61 patients of premature infant before and after gamma globulin treatment. We also analyzed the potential association of the lgG levels and occurrence of infections in 16 cases of infection prevention in preterm children before and after treatment. We further analyzed safety, effectiveness, and the cost of gamma globulin treatment. Results: Serum IgG levels was significantly higher after gamma globulin treatment in comparison to the base line level before treatment(P <0.01).CRP levels were significantly reduced(P <0.01)in the 61 cases of infection in premature infants after treatment.Sixteen premature infants received gamma globulin for infection prevention.Among them,9 cases(56.3%)developed infection. Conclusions: IVIG is an effective method for the treatment of infection in premature infants. However,IVIG may have dual roles, enhancing and suppressing,in the immune systems in children with preterm low birth weight(VLBW).Therefore,it is not recommended to use IVIG in VLBW children.Applications of IVIG to premature infants must be strictly controlled.
