PIK3CA Mutation in Resected Small Cell Lung Cancer

Objectives: To know phosphatidylinositol3-kinase catalytic α (PIK3CA) mutation in small cell lung cancer (SCLC).Materials and Methods: Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and direct sequencing technology was used to detect PIK3CA mutation of 14 cases of retrospectively collected SCLC patients who received surgical treatment in ZhejiangCancerHospitalfrom 2002 to 2010.Results: Our current research revealed that no mutations were found in exons 9, 20 of the PIK3CA gene.The nucleotide change A1634C (E545A) of exon 9 was pseudogene-positive because the mutation disappeared by near duplicate.Conclusion: The incidence of PIK3CA mutation is low in SCLC patients, and the pseudogene-positive is prone to occur in exon 9 of PIK3CA mutation in human cancers.
