Thermal stability and antibacterial activity of phosphonium salts pillared layered α-ZrP

In order to research and development a novel high temperature resistant and predominant antibacterial material, dodecyl tributyl phosphonium bromide pillared layered α-zirconium phosphate (DDTB-ZrPs) was prepared by introducing different content of dodecyl tributyl phosphonium bromide(DDTB) into layered α-zirconium phosphate (ZrP), and the resulting DDTB-ZrPs were characterized by the FTIR, XRD, and TGA.And minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was used to investigate antibacterial activity. The FTIR and XRD data show that the DDTB are intercalated into ZrP.DDTB-ZrP-1 with 5.61 mass% of DDTB, shows highest temperature resistant, the maximum decomposition temperature reached to 384 ℃.DDTB-ZrP-6 with 26.46 mass % of DDTB, displays the highest antibacterial activity with the MIC against E.coli and S.aureus of 80 mg · L-1 and 15 mg · L-1, respectively.Further analyses find that along with the increase of the content of DDTB, the thermostability of DDTB-ZrPs decreased and the antibacterial activity enhanced.
