Bridging Classroom Vocabulary Learning with Mobile Lexical Devices
As mobile learning is future-oriented and can support learners to develop competencies to meet the demands of the 21st century, applications are needed to better understand the concept of mobile learning and how mobile technologies can be used to bridge formal and informal learning. This study explores the possibility of using a mobile lexical spreadsheet to retain and reinforce vocabulary learning.By comparison with those using hardcopy and flashcards, those using the mobile lexical spreadsheet outperformed the other two groups. The learning outcome is triangulated with the data from the after-experiment interviews which shows that flexibility, convenience, feedback and fun are the features that motivate students to use the mobile lexical spreadsheet.
