Integrin αvβ6 in Progression of Digestive Carcinoma

Integrins are heterodimeric receptors comprising α and β subunits, which function as major cell adhesion molecules mediating cell motility, adhesion, polarity, proliferation and survival.The integrin αvβ6 is unique in that it is expressed exclusively in epithelial cells, and β6 partners only with αv forming a single heterodimer.It expresses either absent or at very low levels in normal tissues.However, it becomes de novo or highly expressed during times of morphogenesis, tissue repair and especially in malignant epithelia.
