Tsunami occurrences in China and numerical simulation of a supposed tsunami process in Bohai Sea

The occurrences of tsunami hit in China are investigated based on the history record of tsunami events. Then a 3D numerical model of shallow water flow is used to simulate a supposed tsunami process in the Bohai Sea.According to the investigation, tsunami hits on Chinese mainland by transoceanic tsunamis from Pacific Ocean and India Ocean is not significant, while that from South China Sea may not be negligible. It is found from the numerical results that the magnitude of water level setup is dissipated effectively by the bottom friction rather to being expanded at the shoreline area due to the relatively shallow water depth in the Bohai Sea.The magnitude of water setup along the shoreline mainly depends on the distance to the seismic center.
