Research on the Viscoelastic Time Behavior of an Amphiphilic Polymer Displacing Agent Solution

This research addressed the time behavior of a kind of amphiphilic polymer displacing agent caused by its self-organized associated structure. The relationship between the system viscosity and time was represented by a parabolic-shaped curve when the concentration of amphiphilic polymer solution exceeded 500mg/L.The higher the polymer concentration, the less time needed for the viscosity to stabilize, which facilitated the process of hydrophobic groups forming stable associated network structures. The effect of the mechanical shear strength on the time-dependence of the associated structure also is discussed, wherein the viscosity of the amphiphilic polymer solution showed different time-dependence characteristics under different mechanical shear strengths. With a shear rate higher than 5000 rpm, the system could not regain its original viscosity or even any viscosity at all. Therefore, for amphiphilic polymers, the molecular chain should not be too short, nor should the shear rate be too high in polymer flooding.
