Effects of HPAM of Different Molecular Weights on Foaming Properties of AOS

The effects of the concentration and molecular weight of polyacrylamide (HPAM) on the foaming properties of α-Olefin Sulfonate (AOS) were studied in terms of the half-life, surface tension and interfacial dilational modulus. The results showed that when the molecular weight of HPAM was less than 15 million, the half-life of AOS foams decreased with rising concentrations of HPAM.Furthermore, when the molecular weight of HPAM exceeded 15 million, the foam stability of AOS increased within a certain range of HPAM concentrations. The interfacial dilational modulus of AOS increased as the molecular weight and con-centration of HPAM increased. However, the molecular weight and concentration of HPAM only slightly affected the surface tension of AOS.
