Laboratory Study of Foam Flooding after Polymer Flooding in the Daqing Oilfield

  Since 1960, alkali/surfactant/polymer/natural gas foam flooding has been conducted after water flooding in the Daqing oilfield, with an incremental oil recovery of 25% more than that of water flooding.However, the foamability of this system is bad due to the defoamability of alkali, and its viscosity is low due to the degradation of polymer by alkali.To find a solution to these problems, a non-ionic surfactant was screened for the foam system.This system achieved ultra-low interfacial tension without any alkali, as well as good foamability and foam stability with a foam height of 168mL and half life of 94min.16.7% enhanced oil recovery was obtained in laboratory experiments with three-layer heterogeneous artificial cores by polymer/surfactant/natural gas foam flooding after polymer flooding.The absence of alkali saved more polymer and helped to avoid many problems, such as corrosion and scaling.Polymer/surfactant/natural gas foam flooding may be a promising EOR technique to implement after polymer flooding in the Daqing oilfield.
