Study of Damage Mechanism and Protection Counter-measure for Coalbed Methane

  Good protection of a coalbed methane reservoir can facilitate its exploitation and usage, cover China”s shortage of oil and natural gas, cut greenhouse gas emissions, decrease environmental pollution and prevent mine accidents.Firstly, the damage mechanisms of a coalbed methane reservoir in the Qinshui basin of the Shanxi province were comprehensively analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), linear swelling test and hot rolling dispersion expenments, thin-section analysis, mercury penetration analysis, wettability measurements and sensitivity evaluations.Based on this work, pertinent protection counter-measure studies were conducted, the surface wettability modifier (SD-905) and water sensitivity inhibitor (SMYZ-2) were removed, and then a drilling method was developed for fluid from a coalbed methane reservoir in the Qinshui basin of the Shanxi province composed of 0.4%SD-905 + 0.5%SMYZ-2.This method was shown to cause only minimal damage to the permeability of the ingredient under a hygrometric state.
