NLBA: a Novel Locator Based mobility support Approach in Named Data Networking
Named Data Networking (NDN) is at an early stage of development and implementation, while it still has many aspects need to be studied further in the near future. To enhance seamless provider mobility support in the mobile NDN environment, we propose a Novel Locator Based mobility support Approach, dubbed NLBA.In this approach, we assign a unique locator to each Access Router (AR) in NDN networks, and further modify the outgoing faces field in AR”s original Forwarding Information Base (FIB), to record the mobility status and the current locator of the provider.Besides, we append an additional optional field to the original NDN packet, and further extend the AR with several additional functionalities, such as caching or forwarding Interest packets on behalf of the provider. In our proposed approach, the consumer can continue to communicate with the provider after the latter completes the handover processing, without unnecessarily delivering Interest packets towards the old location of the latter, nor waiting for all relevant routers completing the corresponding FIB entries updating.Via the analytical investigations, we can observe that NLBA has lower handover cost and shorter handover latency, compared with other existing rendezvous point based (or indirection point based) mobility support approach.
