Chronic alcohol consumption can cause alcohol-related dementia and 50-75％ of detoxified alcoholics have memory or cognition impairment.PDEs are a super family of 11 enzymes(PDE1-11) that hydrolyze cyclic nucleotides, including cyclic AMP (cAMP)and cyclic GMP (cGMP).Among them, PDE1, 4, and 10 are involved in alcohol drinking or alcohol drinking-related disorders, while PDE1,2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 are involved in the mediation of memory and cognition.
