Synthesis and characterization of in situ AIN/Mg composites by nitrogen gas bubbling method
In situ formed AIN particles reinforced magnesium alloy matrix composites was successfully fabricated by bubbling nitrogen gas method. The composites obtained was characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive spectroscope (EDS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).The results showed that it is feasible to synthesize AIN particles in AZ91 alloy. The size of AIN particles ranges from submicron to several micron. The phase of Mg17Al12 was greatly refined due to the formation of AIN particles. The micro-hardness of AIN/ AZ91 composites is 88HV.Compared with matrix AZ91 alloy, the micro-hardness increased by 37.5%.
