Magnetically controlled damping in Ni-Mn-Ga/polymer composites

  Magnetically controlled damping in 30vol%Ni-Mn-Ga/polymer composite was investigated.The orientation magnetic field did not affect the phase temperatures of Ni-Mn-Ga/ epoxy resin(EP)composites but result in these single crystal Ni-Mn-Ga powders oriented with the easy magnetization axis (c axis).Damping properties of all composites were greater than that of pure EP at the temperature blow glass transition temperature of EP.The magnetic field while damping test enhanced obviously the damping behavior of Ni-Mn-Ga/EP, which might be the severe twin boundary motion from the competition between the magnetic field and oscillation force.The magnetic field during Ni-Mn-Ga/ EP curing exhibited less effect on the damping behavior than that of the magnetic field during test.
