T-MUSIC Algorithm for DOA-Range Estimation of Mixed Near-Field and Far-Field Sources

  This paper presents an effective two-stage MUSIC (T-MUSIC) algorithm based on second order statics for multiple near-field and far-field sources impinging on a symmetric uniform linear array, named as T-MUSIC algorithm.Firstly, the vectors conducted by the anti-diagnoal elements of a covariance matrix are utilized to form a number of overlapping subvectors.Making use of these subvectors to give a new covariance matrix and apply MUSIC algorithm to estimate DOAs.Then substitute the DOA estimations into the former two-dimensional spectrum estimation problem, so we can transform DOA-Range two-dimensional spectral peak into one-dimensional search related to range to obtain estimations.Compared with the related works, the proposed method can provide superior performance, such as higher estimation accuracy, without the procedure of multidimensional search, higher order statistics or parameter matching.Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed approach.
