Study on the ability to produce hydrogen peroxide and to regenerate ferrous ions in electro-Fenton with foam nickel as the cathode
Classical Fenton”s reaction happens in the presence of Fe2+, H2O2 which produces nonselective oxidation ·OH.·OH acts as a strong oxidant, with ability to react with organics yielding dehydrogenated or hydroxylated derivatives until their overall mineralization (conversion into CO2, water and inorganic ions). The iron catalyst (Fe2+) activity can be substituted by other transition metals (such as Mn, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni,and Zn).Although the classic Fenton reactions (Fe2+/H2O2) have been widely applied for wastewater treatment, they still have two main drawbacks for large-scale application in the wastewater treatment: the high cost, risk transportation of H2O2 and the narrow working pH range (2-3).
