Pulsed corona discharge in aqueous media treatment
One of the problems of potable water chlorination is formation of carcinogenic chlorinated disinfection by-products (DBPs)contributing to deterioration of public health, requiring the reduction of DBPs” precursors, natural organic matter (NOM).Refractory towards biological degradation, toxic, endocrine disrupting, antibiotic, mutagenic and carcinogenic compounds disposed to the environment persistently increase in variety and amount.Removal of dissolved organic compounds is feasible with most often ozone-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), the powerful ”green” oxidant having the only disadvantage, high investment and operational costs.Advanced oxidation processes have OH-radical as the primary oxidant produced in situ. The widening of elite human friendly AOPs application is thus depends on the reduction of the timely OH-radical production cost.
