Partial Liquidus Projection of the B-Fe-Mo Ternary System

  The liquidus projection of the B-Fe-Mo system in the Fe-rich region has been proposed based on the microstructural characterization of arc-melted alloys through powder X-ray diffraction measurements, differential thermal analysis, and scanning electron microscopy observations complemented by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.Five different primary solidification regions were observed: α-Fe, γ-Fe, FeMo2B2, Fe2B, and Fe3Mo2.The following ternary invariant reactions are proposed to occur in the region of Fe-rich corner: U1: L+α-Fe(=)y-Fe+FeMo2B2;E1: L(=)-Fe+Fe2B+FeMo2B2;E2: L(=)R+FeMo2B2+α-Fe.
