Phase diagram (Tb,Ho)Fey-(Tb,Dy)Fey in the Tb-Dy-Ho-Fe system
1.Introduction The Tb0.3Dy0.7Fe2 magnetostrictive material possesses a large magnetostriction and low anisotropy constant, K1, and is of significant interest for applications in transducers and sensors.”1” Actually, the magnetostriction is sensitive to composition, microstructure, and heat treatnent.”2,3” The knowledge of quaternary phase equilibria for the Tb-Dy-Ho-Fe system would help to understand the solidification process,microstructure, and heat treatment of (Tb,Dy,Ho)Fey alloys.Westwood et al.”4” and Mei et al.”5” have reported the existence of a narrow solid solubility of Fe composition (1.83-1.92) in the ternary compound Tb0.3Dy0.7Fe1.95 at the temperature of 850 ℃.The phase relationship and solidification process of Tb0.3Dy0.7Fe1.95 alloy have been determined.”6,7” Until now, the work on the phase diagram of (Tb,Ho)Fey(Tb,Dy)Fey m the Tb-Dy-Ho-Fe system has not been carried out.
