Compact Broadband Quadrature Power Divider using D-CRLH and C-CRLH Transmission Lines

In this paper,a compact broadband quadrature power divider(PD)is first proposed by using unit dual-composite right/left-handed(D-CRLH)and conventional composite right/left-handed(C-CRLH)transmission lines(TLs).The proposed quadrature PD consists of a Wilkinson PD with phase-adjusting D-CRLH/C-CRLH TLs at the outputs. The electromagnetic characteristics of D-CRLH and C-CRLH are simulated and analyzed. The proposed quadrature PD is designed, fabricated and measured. The measured and simulated results are in good agreements, showing that the fabricated quadrature PD operates from 2.1 GHz to 3.1 GHz with return loss better than 10 dB,phase difference less than 10-degree and the magnitude difference less than 1.5 dB,respectively.Compared with the conventional quadrature PD,this one not only has better electromagnetic performances, but also realizes a 17.2%bandwidth enhancement.Besides, the circuit area of the proposed prototype is only 25×30 mm2,and a 45%size reduction is also obtained.
