Fabrication and properties of multi-walled carbon nanotubes reinforced Ag matrix composite
Using silver powder with a purity of more than 99.95% and silver-coated carbon nanotubes as the raw materials, multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) reinforced Ag matrix composite is fabricated by powder metallurgy, which involves high-energy ball milling, repressing and resintering, hot pressing and hot extrusion. The electrical conductivity, tensile strength, hardness of the composite was studied. The results show that the interface bonding between the MWCNTs and the Ag substrate is improved by the silver coating on the surface of the MWCNTs, ensuring good processing performance of the composite. At the same time, the tensile strength of the composite increases by 40% and the hardness doubles, indicating the good reinforcement effect of the MWCNTs.
